Can I Have a Brow Lift Surgery on the NHS? - Cosmetic Surgery Guide

Cosmetic Surgery Enquiry

One of the first questions you might ask when looking into a cosmetic surgery that you are interested in is whether you can get that procedure covered by the NHS. This article describes the NHS criteria relating to the funding of cosmetic procedures. The National Health Service is responsible for meeting the health needs of the population of the UK, and as such can work under some fairly strict guidelines as to which procedures it funds.

Can I get brow lift surgeries on the NHS?

The NHS makes a clear distinction between plastic and cosmetic surgeries. While plastic surgeries are performed to repair skin and other parts of the body, cosmetic surgeries are completely elective and are only done for the purposes of appearance. The NHS covers plastic surgeries, but will generally not provide funding for medically unnecessary procedures. There are some instances where the NHS will pay for cosmetic surgeries, but only where such a procedure is needed for health reasons. Examples include the nose reshaping surgery known as a rhinoplasty, which while usually performed to change the look of a nose, can be done to restore normal breathing, and a breast reduction surgery where the size and weight of breasts is causing back problems.

Brow lift surgeries are performed exclusively for the purpose of appearance, and as such aren't covered by the NHS. Which unfortunately means that if you do want to receive the treatment, you will have to arrange covering its costs on your own. Fortunately most providers of cosmetic surgeries will be able to offer you finance and credit options which can make the costs of brow lift surgeries more affordable.
