What is Brow Suspension? - Cosmetic Surgery Guide
Everybody is different, and so what you want out of a cosmetic procedure like brow suspension will be unique to you. In order to meet such varied needs brow lift surgeries are available as a number of different techniques, each of which is suited towards achieving a specific kind of result. One of these approaches to the surgery is brow suspension, which is known for its ability to provide great results and a fresher look and feel to your brow and eyes.
How are brow suspension surgeries performed?
A brow suspension specifically focuses on your eyebrows and works to give you a younger and fresher look by tightening the skin around your eyebrows and eyes and hence getting rid of those pesky wrinkles that might be making you feel self-conscious or unhappy. Wrinkles are a natural part of aging, and come about because of the wear your skin undergoes over years of muscular contraction as your face shifts from expression to expression over the course of your life.
A brow suspension will change your skin's appearance by tightening your skin by first 'suspending' the skin around your eyes by means of a very specialised piece of equipment. This piece of kit is a fine thread fitted with minute plastic bumps or spikes that lift your skin and allow your surgeon to tighten the muscles etc. that shape your eyebrows. An in-depth consultation with your surgeon will give him or her an idea of what it is you want out of the surgery, and so this technique can give you a very specific brow shape which meets your expectations. A brow suspension will often be performed alongside a treatment of your cheeks to give better overall results, and again your consultation will give you a chance to discuss the option with your surgeon and decide whether that is something you want.
There are two variations on the brow suspension method that can give your surgeon more flexibility and choice when it comes to your treatment. It is possible to perform the surgery with and without an 'anchor', which basically means that the thread placed under your skin can be 'anchored' to the bone or muscle under your brow to give it better support. This option is particularly useful where your surgeon is looking to treat parts of your brow and forehead that possess firmer muscles like the central region of your brow.
Why would I want a brow suspension lift?
A brow suspension lift is a great option for achieving a completely refreshed look to the skin around your brow. It can be particularly successful where performed alongside a similar treatment to your cheeks, giving a large part of your face a natural, smoother, and younger look. This type of surgery is often sought as a step against the effects of aging on your skin, and in some cases as a step to change how your brow because you aren't pleased with its natural shape. Either way the brow suspension method of the brow lift can give you what you want with many positive effects on your self-confidence, and all the benefits that come along with feeling better about how you look.
Is a brow suspension lift for me?
Brow suspensions tend to be a lot more localised than other brow lift surgery methods, and what that means is that the surgery will tend to focus almost exclusively on the skin directly around your brow line as opposed to the skin on your forehead as well. Other brow lift methods will also extend to your forehead, and if you want a much more focussed approach than brow suspension might be the route for you. If the surgery sounds like the right choice for you then chances are your surgeon will talk to you about the option during a consultation.
As with any cosmetic surgery you need to be in good physical and mental health before undertaking the treatment. Brow suspension lifts are fairly non-invasive, but even so any surgical procedure has some risks, and as the treatment isn't medically necessary any health problems will probably mean that the risk of the surgery isn't the best option for you.
Pros and cons of brow suspension
Brow suspension surgery is a great way of achieving a newly rejuvenated brow, and it offers many advantages, including the benefits of being a fairly non-invasive procedure, which means there is a minimal risk of scarring. The procedure is also generally quite quick with a short recovery time, particularly when compared to larger scale procedures like coronal brow lifts. Brow suspensions are also very specific in the target area they affect, and your surgeon is able, through this type of surgery, to give you exactly the results you want. When coupled with a procedure to tighten the skin on your cheeks, you can find yourself with an amazingly younger overall look.
There are a couple of downsides to brow suspension, the first being that if you are looking for a more general procedure that lifts the whole of your brow and part, if not the whole, of your forehead, then brow suspension is not the type of surgery for you. There is some risk of swelling and bruising after surgery in this area of your face, particularly of the eyelids which can be uncomfortable. There is also a chance of an infection in the eyelid or some asymmetry between your two eyes, although a skilled surgeon who is well prepared should be able to deliver an excellent procedure with quality post-surgical care to prevent further infections.
