How Do I Prepare for Arm Lift Surgery? - Cosmetic Surgery Guide
Try to avoid stress or worrying about anything on the day of your arm lift. If it is the surgery itself which you are finding stressful to think about, you should try discussing it with your surgeon or someone like a friend or relative. This will help you to prepare and feel more confident on the day, which will decrease the amount that the surgical procedure will cause stress. Stress causes high blood pressure which may react badly with the general anaesthetic, causing complications. Anxiety is often reported in people who are about to undergo surgery. Try not to worry and remember that you are not alone. Keep in mind the investments (both financial and personal) which you have made to get where you are. You can also practise breathing exercises to calm yourself down and lower your blood pressure. For example, breathing in slowly, holding your breath and slowly exhaling then holding your breath again before repeating.
For six hours before your surgery you will not be allowed to eat anything, this is because you will be having a general anaesthetic which can react negatively with the contents of your stomach. Limit yourself to small sips of water during the first 4 hours of this period. During the last 2 hours before surgery, it is important that you neither eat nor drink anything at all. Local anaesthetic and other forms of sedation have varying lengths of time for which you cannot eat, which may not be 6 hours as with general anaesthetic.
Measures may be undertaken when you arrive at the location of the surgery to reduce the changes of blood clots during surgery. For example, you may be given a drug to make your blood thinner, or some other method used to alter the nature of your blood flow during surgery. This will be for your own safety if you are at a higher risk of blood clots while under general anaesthetic.
Talk to the surgeon before going into surgery and try to acclimatise yourself to the location. This will make you more comfortable with what is happening, where it is happening and who will be doing the surgery. This will help you to relax in preparation for your arm lift surgery.
