Is Arm Lift Surgery Effective? - Cosmetic Surgery Guide
Studies have shown that a high proportion of people who have arm lift surgery notice an improvement in their self-esteem afterwards, a similar proportion also said that they would undergo the same surgery again. Many people who opt for surgery to remove their excess skin or fat appear to believe that the risk of unsightly scarring is outweighed by the rewards of having arms which are more toned in appearance.
What can I do to make my arm lift surgery more effective?
There are certain things which you can do to improve the chances of the surgery being effective and having a positive outcome. These largely involve keeping both your body and mind in a healthy state. Make sure that you have made a full recovery from any illness, whether the onset occurs after the first consultation or before it and regardless of how minor the illness may be, before you undergo the surgery. General anaesthetic can be dangerous, and if you are unwell at the time when you are having surgery, the risk of complications associated with anaesthetic is increased. An illness might also extend the amount of time which you take to recover from the surgery.
If you are overweight (having a Body Mass Index over 25) then you should attempt to reduce you BMI through healthy eating and light exercise to a normal range, which is between 18.5 and 25. Being overweight at the time of the surgical procedure is unlikely to increase the risk of dangerous complications; however, it is advisable that you try to get rid of as much fat from your arms as possible, as existing fat at the time of the surgery may adversely affect the shape of your arms afterwards. If the skin is made tighter over large amounts of fat, it may not end up looking as smooth or toned as you had been hoping.
What you consume before having surgery is important for more reasons other than that it will affect your general health. If you start taking a new form of medication or supplement that you haven't had before, you could have an adverse or allergic reaction to it. This can then lead to complications arising during your surgery, which can be dangerous for you.
Another way in which you can prepare for your surgery (and increase the likelihood that it will be effective) is if you tell the people who you interact with regularly. This could include family, friends or colleagues who you talk to and associate with often. This prepares both you and them for the changes to your body shape which are going to result from the surgery. If you can discuss the risks of arm lift surgery and any concerns which you have with somebody who cares about you and who may share your concerns, it will help you feel more mentally prepared and confident.
