How Long does it Take to Recover from an Abdominoplasty?

Cosmetic Surgery Enquiry

When looking at this problem you need to keep two things in mind; the first is that the healing time for each person will be different, dependent upon a number of variable factors such as your natural ability to heal, an general diet etc., and secondly that Abdominoplasty, though it is an incredibly popular operation it is still a very invasive one and so your healing time will be longer than for other operations. You will not be going to work the next day. You should expect to be house bound and unable to do any kind of excessive movement or exercise for at least two weeks after the surgery, and for most people the time that it takes them to get back to work after an Abdominoplasty can be as long as four weeks. This is because of the pain and immobility that is a consequence of the operation; the abdomen is the part of our body that allows us mobility, to move and twist and so an operation on it will take away your ability to move. A month after the surgery, if your surgeon says it is okay, then you can partake in moderate exercise, though you need to be aware that you are still healing and that too much will harm this process or even cause damage to you. After around six months you should have returned to normal with most of the healing process done, though you will still be scarring and it will be another year to two years before the scars are fully healed and you can see the full results of the operation. Overall, then, on average it will take over a year for you to be fully healed and for the full effects of the operation to show themselves. This is because, as mentioned above, Abdominoplasty is a far more invasive procedure than most other surgeries and the body needs more time to heal as a result.
