What are a Child's Permanent Teeth Like? | Dental Treatment Guide

When children reach the age of seven, their baby teeth start to get replaced with adult teeth or permanent teeth. Some children will lose their teeth earlier than others. The order that your child’s teeth come in is more important than the time they start to come in. The four lower front teeth are the first permanent teeth that usually come out. In some cases, children get their permanent molars first. These are referred to as the six year molars and they come in behind the primary teeth. Take note that they do not replace any primary teeth. When the child reaches the age of eleven or twelve, the second set of permanent molars come in behind the six year molars.

When the child reaches the age of thirteen, most of their permanent teeth will be in place. Your wisdom teeth or your third molars will come in between the ages of seventeen and twenty one however, not all people get wisdom teeth. Some people don’t even get all four of them. It is common for the wisdom teeth to develop and have not enough room in the mouth.
