Gastric Banding - Realize system - Obesity Surgery Guide
The ‘Realize' system is very similar to the LAP-BAND system and is a relatively new addition to the field of gastric banding. It works in the same way as the LAP-BAND system in that it is wrapped around the top part of stomach to form a pouch. This pouch will probably be the size of a golf ball or a bit bigger. This band is attached to thin, hollow tubing and at the end of that tubing is an access port. Saline solution can be injected into that port.
This band can hold up to nearly 2 teaspoons of saline. The access port or ‘Realize Injection Port' is fastened just under the skin. The port is where your surgeon either adds or removes saline solution.
